ONGOING | Diagnostic Imaging Campaign 2016/2017

The North Central Health Care Foundation announced in December a capital campaign to raise $510 000 towards the costs of the Stage II implementation of the Digital Imaging process at Melfort Hospital. The Foundation Chairman, Garnet Davis, made the announcement and explained that the Foundation had agreed to assist financially with the purchase of the equipment required to facilitate the implementation of the new digital imaging process.

The funds will be directed toward two pieces of equipment – a direct radiography room (which will be located in the traditional “x-ray” department of the hospital), and a direct radiography portable unit which can be used elsewhere in the hospital, particularly the operating room and emergency room.

Advantages of the new equipment are numerous:

  • The availability of a portable unit for use primarily in the operating room and in the emergency   department will result in less inconvenience to the patient, and a more timely diagnosis;
  • There is a significant improvement in turnaround time for reporting (from 1 day to 20 minutes);
  • There is a much improved image quality over film or screen;
  • There is a reduction in patient dose of radiation of approximately 30%;
  • Digital images will be stored in a provincial data base where images can be made available anytime, anywhere;
  • There is a significant reduction in supplies required in the process and the steps in the process; and
  • There is a significant reduction in space required, thereby freeing up space previously used for darkrooms and storage.

The previous Digital Imaging Campaign in 2007 had allowed for the initial steps in the transition from x-ray or film technology to a newer computed radiography, (Stage 1), but further advances in technology and reduced costs of equipment have allowed for a completely new digital radiography process to be introduced to Kelsey Trail Health Region facilities at this time (Stage 2).

The Caring Spirit Program

Every day, babies are born, bones are reset and cuts are stitched. Patients rehabilitate surgically repaired knees,and undergo x-rays and a variety of diagnostic tests.

Doctors, nurses, technicians, home care workers, health services personnel, hospital and long-term care personal are the life force behind any health region. They work together as a team to treat patients/clients with dignity and compassion. They care about the people in our community and show it by giving you the best medical attention possible.

The Caring Spirit Program allows grateful patients, family members, and friends to express their gratitude to the people who were there when they needed them most.

This Program provides the opportunity to support excellence in patient care at any of the North Central Health Care Foundation’s facilities, while recognizing professional services by a particular individual or health care team.

How The Caring Spirit Program Works

On receipt of your gift, the North Central Health Care Foundation will send a card to the health care professional(s) or service provider you wish to honour.

You will receive a charitable tax receipt along with our thanks.

How Your Gift Works

North Central Health Care Foundation`s Caring Spirit Program helps the Kelsey Trail Health Region provide the best care possible.

The NCHCF works closely with the Kelsey Trail Health Region’s facilities in Melfort and area to determine the highest priorities each year, so that funds are always directed to the areas of care where they are most needed.

Recognizing caregivers is a wonderful way to support our health region, and your gratitude for excellent care deeply touches the hearts of people you thank. Most importantly, your gift also helps to create an environment in which medical professionals experience greater satisfaction and have greater opportunity to excel.

Planned Giving

Planning your gift enables you to leave a legacy that reflects your intentions. We`re honoured to offer guidance during this process and help you be remembered for what you believe.

Designating North Central Health Care Foundation as the beneficiary of a pre-determined portion of your estate ensures that your charitable wishes will be carried out according to your plan. Bequests can be designated toward a particular facility, but can also be applied to the area of greatest need when your bequest is received.

Securities (Shares/Stocks/Bonds)

Gifting securities is a popular and convenient form of charitable giving because of its tax incentives and simplicity. In order to realize the tax benefit, a donor must not sell the securities; but rather, the donor (or donor`s financial advisor) transfers the securities directly to the North Central Health Care Foundation, and we sell them.

Your financial planner should consult with the Foundation for further information.

Life Insurance Policies

There are benefits for donating existing, paid up policies, or new insurance policies. For an existing policy, a charitable tax receipt will be issued for the cash surrender value of the policy, and this gift will not affect the door`s estate plan. Naming the Foundation as the beneficiary of a new policy results in a charitable tax receipt for the annual premium, thereby significantly defraying the cost.

By naming the North Central Health Care Foundation as the beneficiary of an RRSP or RRIF, the value of either will be taken out of your estate and may greatly reduce the tax owing on your final tax return.

We understand that each individual`s financial circumstances are unique and you are advised to consult with a qualified professional advisor.

Special Gifts

In Memoriam gifts are a perfect way to remember loved ones while contributing to enhanced health care. A gift In Honour can help you remember loved ones on special occasions.
